This probably sounds pretty Harry Hippie, but I really believe a song develops it’s own personality while it's being written. Often it's immediately obvious if it's the sensitive type like Remedy, or a bit of a dick like I'm Your Man. Sometimes I make the mistake of forcing the personality of a song out before it's ready and that's how Liars and Thieves felt right up it was recorded. It's the last song Harv and I wrote for the album and I really wanted to make a statement with the lyrics. I did a bunch of drafts and threw them away, only to strip each idea back into a couplet and created a narrative from there. Like most people I know, I'm shit-scared about where the planet is headed with global warming and crazy weather. Seeing the way young kids and community action groups are stepping up to call out government environmental policy is very heartening. So that's what this song is about, I guess: Hope. - Al (vocals)
